- Nehe was always an exceptionally quiet child, hence her name. Her father, who hailed from sunny Hawaii, named her after his own homeland. Nehe had three siblings and a mother who was native to their current home, a somewhat forested area. As she grew, her shyness only intensified, and she usually only spoke when she had to. She never really had much to say anyway.
At thirteen, all young pups of the land were expected to be initiated into the tribe through a ceremony with the gods. Nehe and her siblings made the journey with their parents. At the ceremony, Nehe became totally tongue-tied and messed up the ritualistic chant that all the pups were expected to recite. Everybody became confused, as Nehe had lost the rhythm of the thing. She lost her nerve and tried to run away, but one of the crueler goddesses attending the ceremony was angered by her seeming disrespect and chose to reveal herself. As all the others cowered away in fear, the goddess cursed Nehe with two things: a mind full of inspiration and an inability to say them. "Now that you understand how valuable words are, maybe you'll use them more carefully."
Shunned thereafter by her own family, Nehe fled, advised by the tribe elder to seek out someone who would be able to heal her wound. However, she never found anyone capable of healing it, as most healers shied away from her as soon as she revealed it, and of course she couldn't explain what it was. So she bandaged it up and decided to take on the life of a wandering nomad. During her quest to find a cure for the curse, she had become somewhat of an accomplished healer, so she furthered this talent and became a nomad who traveled round the rural areas of the globe, looking for rare plants and healing others. In this way, she became of more use to the world than she ever would have been living her life in the tribe, but she still wasn't happy.
When she was eighteen, the curse wound had almost grown to her shoulder, and she was limping badly. Although she was still young and in the prime of life, she realized that with this disability she could no longer be as wide-ranging and active as she once was. She began to narrow her territory down to one specific area and the few settlements there. The people there weren't as fervent of believers of the gods, and therefore the deities had less power there. Nehe grew to be known as "the whisper girl" and "the silent healer". In this way, she lived her life, until the day she turned twenty-one and everything changed.
